This year we are spicing things up with our Iran itinerary and taking you to a different side of this must-see country, seeing all the must-see sights as well as the more hidden ones. 

In the thriving capital of Tehran you will visit the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini and revolutionary martyrs cemetery before you see the famous anti-US propaganda adjoining the facades of buildings and the former US embassy.

You then hit the road for Esfahan and see royal palaces and mosques, local bazaars and hang out with locals at the gym watching ancient Persian workouts. In Yazd you will see ancient Zoroastrian temples and the famed towers of silence before we stroll around the UNESCO site of Persepolis outside of Shiraz.

This tour is open to all nationalities except Israeli, if you are from the UK, the USA, Canada or Colombia we advise booking no later than 3 months before the tour to give us time to secure the visa codes. As always GVT provides full visa support for all nationalities. This is a tour for true Pioneers and comes right after our Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Tours which means they can be easily combined! All tours can be done as standalone, or combined with discounts. For an epic adventure, you can also join our combo throughout the Caucasus, taking in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and the unrecognised republic within.

Itinerary

Tuesday 6th April 

  • Arrival by flight as per your own schedule. You can spend the day checking out Tehran and also meet-up with other members of your group to mark the start of your Iran tour.

  • The group will meet in the hotel at 5pm. We take off to experience Old Tehran by night and soak up the atmosphere, meeting the friendly inhabitants of this city and sampling tea and other offerings.

  • We spend the night at the New Aderi Hotel, great accommodation in Tehran.

 

Wednesday 7th April 

  • City tour through Tehran which will include examples of anti-US propaganda and the US embassy itself, made famous in the recent movie Argo. We may possibly be able to see inside the embassy.

  • Next we visit the Revolutionary Martys Cemetery.

  • We’ll check out the Shah’s Monument for some photos.

  • Next stop is the Erbat Museum. This place is pretty propaganda heavy, and not for the faint hearted!

  • We’ll stop by the Tajrish Bazaar, great place for mingling or buying spices and souvenirs.

  • Dinner at the world famous Armenian Club!

  • Overnight in Tehran.

 

Thursday 8th April 

  • Drive to Esfahan (4-5 hours) with plenty of stops for breaks and photos

  • Lunch in a restaurant in one of the smaller cities on the way.

  • Go to the famous old Khaju bridge.

  • Walk across bridge and mingle with locals.

  • Visit one of the oldest carpet shops. Explanation on a variety of Persian carpets and opportunity for a purchase. The presentation involves a show how carpets are made and explanation of 30 different styles of carpets.

  • Dinner in a local restaurant of the local speciality of chelo kebab

  • Evening visit to the 300-year-old Abbasi Hotel for traditional Iranian tea.

  • Overnight at the centrally located Esfahan tourist Hotel.

 

Friday 9th April 

  • After breakfast we check out the Ali Qapu Royal Palace which was built in the early 17th century.

  • We visit Sheikh Lotfollah mosque and Ali Gapoo Palace.

  • We’ll visit the enormous bustling Naqsh-e Jahan Sqaure, the second largest public square in the world after Tian’anmen Square in Beijing!

  • After lunch at the square we’ll visit the Imam Mosque, noted for its splendid architecture. It was known as the Shah Mosque up until the revolution.

  • Visit to a traditional and unique Iranian gym with the possibility to see some Persian wrestling!

  • Dinner and drinks out on the town.

 

Saturday 10th April 

  • After breakfast we’ll get on the road for four hours to get to Yazd.

  • Yazd is an ancient city, 5000 years old and a centre of Zoroastrian culture. We’ll grab lunch on arrival and then do some exploring for the afternoon.

  • We’ll stop tby the Amir Chakhmaq Complex and nearby mosque for some photo opps.

  • Next we’ll check out the old city and Jame Mosque, we’ll also stop by Rafieians Old House. This was built in the 1700’s and boasts beautiful architecture that was typical of the period.

  • Dinner and drinks in Yazd.

 

Sunday 11th April 

  • Up early to head to the stunning Dolat Abad Garden, the Zoroastrian Fire Temple and the world renowned Yazd Tower of Silence.

  • We’ll have lunch and then hit the road for our drive to Shiraz (5 hours).

  • We’ll stop at a tea house en route, free time to relax or stroll around.

  • In Shiraz we’ll head to the local bazaar and sample a traditional Di Zi dish for dinner.

  • Overnight in Shiraz.

 

Monday 12th April 

  • After breakfast we’ll visit the colour stained mosque to see the morning light shine through the stained glass windows.

  • Next up is the Necropolis tombs, we’ll stop for lunch at local restaurant ‘Paradise’ on the way.

  • After lunch we explore the palaces, forts and treasury of Persepolis.

  • We’ll drive back to Shiraz and visit the botanic gardens in the city.

  • We will have some Shiraz ice-cream at a well-known ice-cream parlour.

  • The Tomb of Hafez – built in honour of the Iranian poet.

  • Dinner in the evening.

  • The streets are your playground as you explore them by night.

  • We spend the night at Parsian Hotel.

     

Tuesday 13th April 

  • Feel free to do some last minute shopping before your departure and today marks the end of the tour. Departure as per own schedule.
